Anyone who talks to a camera
If you’ve ever recorded a video and winced at the ums, erm is for you. Here are some of the places people need it.
Product demos
A live walkthrough fills up with “um”, “uh” and silences while you hunt for the right screen. erm finds those filler words and long pauses in your demo video, you choose which go, and it cuts them out on your Mac.
YouTube videos
Viewers decide in seconds whether to stay. erm finds the ums, uhs and dead air in your YouTube video before you upload, you choose which go, and it removes the filler words without you scrubbing through the timeline.
Online courses
Teaching on camera is tiring, and re-recording a lesson for one stumble is worse. erm finds the ums, erms and long thinking pauses in each course video, and removes the filler words you choose.
Webinars and talks
A live talk is allowed a few ums. The recording, shared for months afterwards, does better without them. erm finds the filler words and dead air in a webinar or conference talk, and cuts the ones you choose in one pass.
Sales videos
A short personal video can beat a long email, but only if it sounds sure of itself. erm finds the ums, uhs and awkward pauses in your sales video and removes the filler words before you hit send.
Screen recordings
Talking while you click is hard. The voiceover fills with ums and long gaps while you look for the thing to show. erm finds those filler words and silences in your screen recording or tutorial and cuts them out.
Founder and LinkedIn videos
Posting a video of yourself is easier when you know the ums will be gone. Say it naturally, and erm finds the filler words and long pauses in your talking-head video so you can cut them before you post.
Video podcasts
A long conversation is full of ums and false starts. Some are part of a natural chat, but too many tire a listener. erm finds the filler words and dead air in your video podcast, so you choose which go.
Interviews
People think while they speak, so an interview is full of ums and gaps. erm finds the filler words and long pauses in an interview recording, and tidies it so the answers are what you remember.
Teachers and lectures
A recorded lecture gets watched again before an exam. erm finds the ums, erms and long gaps in a lecture or classroom recording and removes the filler words you choose, so the lesson is clearer and a little shorter.
Short social videos
On short videos every second counts. erm finds the ums, uhs and dead air in your Reels, Shorts and TikToks and removes the filler words, so your point lands in the first moments.
Coaches and consultants
Coaches and consultants talk for a living, and recorded videos should sound as clear as a good session. erm finds the ums, erms and other filler words in your coaching videos, and removes the ones you choose.
Why I built erm
I’m a software product manager. While making a demo video for work, I got frustrated trying to find a tool that was simple to use on a Mac. I wanted to take out the ums and the long pauses, not learn a video editor. So I built erm.
If you have a use that isn’t listed, tell me about it.
