You, minus the erms.
erm finds every erm, um and long pause in your talking-head video. You choose what goes, and it cuts them out cleanly, right on your Mac.
Your video never leaves your device. Nothing is uploaded.
First 3 videos free. Then $29.99 once, or $19.99 a year if you’d rather.
Try it: click a struck word to keep it, or use Next to move between cuts.
32 fillers gone. Your video is 41 seconds shorter and still sounds like you.
How it works
-
01
Drop in a video
Any talking-head .mov, .mp4 or .m4v from your camera, phone or screen recorder. Any length.
-
02
erm listens
It hears each erm, um and uh, and every pause that runs too long. On your device. The first time, erm downloads its listening model (about 500 MB); after that it works offline.
-
03
You choose what goes
Every cut is a suggestion. Keep any you like, cut any other word in the transcript, hear how it sounds, then export.
Made to be trusted with your face
Private by design
erm does all its listening and cutting on your device. Nothing is uploaded, ever. After a one-off model download, it works on a plane.
Pauses shortened, not chopped
Long silences become a natural breath, with a soft join and your room’s own sound, so nobody hears the edit.
You stay in charge
Not sure about a cut? Keep this one. erm marks the ones it’s unsure of and leaves them alone. Want to cut a word of your own? Click it in the transcript. Every choice can be undone.
Built for the Mac
Drop in a video, review the cuts in a cuts list or the full transcript, and save the edit in the format you choose, with the sound levelled if you like. iPhone and iPad versions are planned.
Made for anyone who talks to a camera
Product demos
You know the product inside out, but a live walkthrough is full of “so”, “um” and silences while you hunt for the right screen. erm cuts those out and leaves the demo.
YouTube videos
Viewers decide in seconds whether to stay. Cutting the ums and the dead air makes each video move faster, without you scrubbing through the timeline for them.
Online courses
Teaching on camera is tiring, and re-recording a lesson for one stumble is worse. Record the lesson, and let erm take out the ums and the long gaps.
Webinars and talks
A live talk is allowed to have a few ums. The recording, shared for months afterwards, does better without them. erm cleans it up in one pass.
Sales videos
A short personal video can beat a long email, but only if it sounds sure of itself. Record it, and let erm take out the ums.
Screen recordings
Talking while you click is hard. The voiceover fills with ums and long gaps while you look for the thing to show. erm cuts them out.
Why I built erm
I’m a software product manager. While making a demo video for work, I got frustrated trying to find a tool that was simple to use on a Mac. I wanted to take out the ums and the long pauses, not learn a video editor. So I built erm.
Pay once. Keep it.
Your first 3 videos are free, at full quality with no watermark. After that, buy erm once for $29.99, or subscribe for $19.99 a year. Other editors charge every month, often with hour limits.
Questions
Will it cut words I meant to say?
It only suggests cuts, and you see every one before anything is exported. Words that are sometimes real, like “so” or “you know”, are never cut unless you ask.
Does it work with my accent?
erm listens for English fillers. Because you review every cut before exporting, a missed or mistaken one is easy to fix, and your first 3 videos are free so you can try it on your own.
Do I need an account?
No. Download it and drop in a video. There’s nothing to sign up for.
Does it need the internet?
Only once. The first time you use it, erm downloads its listening model (about 500 MB). After that it works offline, and your video is never uploaded.
Which videos can I use?
Videos in .mov, .mp4 or .m4v format, which covers most cameras, phones and screen recorders. Save the edit as the same format as the original, or as H.264 or HEVC.
Which Macs does it run on?
Any Mac running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. iPhone and iPad versions are planned.
When can I get it?
erm is with the Mac App Store review team now. Email us and we’ll tell you the day it’s out.
Everyone says erm.
Your videos don’t have to.
