Remove ums from your product demos
A live walkthrough fills up with “um”, “uh” and silences while you hunt for the right screen. erm finds those filler words and long pauses in your demo video, you choose which go, and it cuts them out on your Mac.
Product demos that sound as sure as you are
A demo video is shown to customers, executives and sales teams, often many times over. Every hesitation is repeated each time someone plays it, and a demo that stumbles makes the product look harder to use than it is.
What erm finds
So this is the new dashboard. Um, if I go to… 4.1 s pause the settings page, you can erm turn on the export option uh right here.
How erm helps with product demos
- Record it in one take and fix it afterwards, rather than re-recording until it’s perfect.
- Long pauses while you find a menu or wait for a screen to load are shortened to a natural breath.
- Everything stays on your Mac, so unreleased features and customer data never leave your machine.
- You review each cut, so a deliberate pause before a key moment can stay.
Remove filler words from product demos in three steps
- Drop in your video. A .mov, .mp4 or .m4v of any length, from your camera, phone or screen recorder.
- Review the cuts. erm marks each um, erm, uh and long pause. Keep any you like.
- Save the edit. Done on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded.

Tips for cleaner product demos
- Write down the three things the viewer must see, and say each one out loud before you record. You’ll hesitate less between screens.
- Open every tab and window before you press record, so the pauses while things load are short to begin with.
- Leave a deliberate beat before the big reveal. When you review the cuts, keep that pause and let the others go.
Why I built erm
I’m a software product manager. While making a demo video for work, I got frustrated trying to find a tool that was simple to use on a Mac. I wanted to take out the ums and the long pauses, not learn a video editor. So I built erm.
Questions
Can I remove ums from a demo without re-recording it?
Yes. That’s what erm is for. Drop in the take you have, review the ums, erms and long pauses it marks, and save the edited video.
Is it safe to use with unreleased features?
Yes. erm listens and cuts on your Mac. The video is never uploaded, so a demo of something unannounced stays with you.
Does it work on screen recordings with a voiceover?
Yes. erm listens to the audio, so it works on any video where someone is talking, including a screen recording with your voice over it.
Will the cuts be noticeable in a demo?
A cut removes the same moment from the picture and the sound. Most land while you’re talking over a still screen, so they’re hard to spot. If one would make the screen jump, keep it when you review.
Other ways to use erm
Screen recordings
Talking while you click is hard. The voiceover fills with ums and long gaps while you look for the thing to show. erm finds those filler words and silences in your screen recording or tutorial and cuts them out.
Sales videos
A short personal video can beat a long email, but only if it sounds sure of itself. erm finds the ums, uhs and awkward pauses in your sales video and removes the filler words before you hit send.
Webinars and talks
A live talk is allowed a few ums. The recording, shared for months afterwards, does better without them. erm finds the filler words and dead air in a webinar or conference talk, and cuts the ones you choose in one pass.
